I have been potty training Ayla!

I don't know if you remember that I documented on my blog a while ago that Ayla used the potty for her first time. Well she went that once and that was the end of it until now.

I am happy to report that Ayla is almost completely potty trained! I say almost because we are still doing the reward system. She has a sticker chart, she has a jar that we fill up with marble rocks and when it is full she gets to go to the dollar store and pick out a toy. We also have been giving her marshmallows.

I started training her not this past week but the week before. I stayed home with her for a week and she did very well! We had our accidents of course! I actually did the bottomless thing for three days and after she got the concept we put her in loses fitting bottom clothing like, PJ bottoms. She has no undies yet but she will get them once we are sure she will not go in them. She is getting close to that! She only wears pull-ups at night and during naps.

On Monday I took Ayla to get a hearing test, which she passed! After the hearing test I took her to the zoo. I was very nerves to see how she would do on our first official outing! Not to mention how she would do on a public toilet. She did great! I now know where every bathroom is at the zoo! She also had no accidents when we went sledding on Tuesday.

I have been so proud of her this week because she has only had one accident and that was on her way to the bathroom while she was screaming that she had to go.

As of today, she has gotten really good at it. She even has gotten to the point that she doesn't want any help. She has even gotten good at washing her hands. She has even been waking up in the night to go. She has had dry pull-ups, except for one time this week. I am so proud of her!

I trained her on her potty chair but she is going on the main toilet now and I love it! She tells me when she needs to go. Although sometimes she says she has to go when she doesn't, like today in sacrament meeting, 3 different times! It has become a little game sometimes to her. She knows that if she says she has to go that we will drop what we are doing and take her, smart kid!

It wasn't easy and I had my doubts that she wasn't ready but I did it because she recently became allergic to the sensitive wipes I had been using on her since she was an infant. She was sad for a while with having to take her diaper off but she is now over that. It also was trying because during the week that I was potty training her she would hold her #2 in and then the next couple of days after that she had a sour stomach and was sick and we had #2 issues. I am glad to say she is over that!

She is doing so well! I am so proud of her!

A special thanks to my friend, Leah for the many phone calls I have given her over the past couple of weeks. I am also thankful to my friend, Ann who gave me some pointers. I am also thankful to my friend, Monica for her pointers from the first post I posted about potty training earlier last year. I am thankful for the support I have had on Facebook and for the wipe recipes people gave me.

Thank you!

WooHooo!
That was always such a good day on the planet! NO MORE DIAPERS!

Back in the "olden days" I used cloth diapers, so I was highly motivated to get them out of diapers.

She's growing up way too fast!
She is so darling!

My first child wasn't hard to potty train ONCE HE WAS READY (at age 3)!

My second child was miraculously easy because she wanted to be grown up like her brother (at age 2)!

I barely survived potty training my third child, who was physically ready for a long time, but DID NOT CARE! We finally succeeded at age 4...EEEK!

I'm glad Ayla has done so well! :)

Congratulations! I tried to start potty training with Kurt, since Mom bought him a potty chair, pull ups, and an Elmo Potty Training video, but he is definitely Not Ready. :( Sigh. Maybe when he's closer to Ayla's age, he'll be more open to it. Right now, his only interest in the potty is flushing. Thankfully, he hasn't plugged the toilet and flooded the bathroom again!

Congrats on the potty training! It is a hard thing to do, but so great once they have the hang of it:)

Good job to Ayla (and to you mom it's hard work!). I always did not like potty training at all. You make it look easy Heather!

What an accomplishment..for you and Ayla!
No more diapers! Yay!!!

I trained my oldest granddaughter with M&Ms. Marshmallows would have been so much better to use. I could have eaten the M&Ms myself!

It must have been in the air! I started pottytraining my #4 around the same time! I am trying to stay consistant because right about now is when they struggle and quit, or if I stay consistant they are done! It is hard going on week 3 to still remember to take her every couple hours - but so far we only have 1 accident a day, which in my book is really good for week 3. And Last night we went to walmart and while checking out she started yelling "I gotta pee I gotta pee!!" I paniced, it felt like hours but it was microseconds and I said "can you hold it?" then scooped her up and held her legs tight against me and said "hold it just for 1 minute ok?" we finished checking out, paid and left our cart with the checker and RAN!! I had my baby on one hip and my toddler clentched to my side.

My arm achedby the time we got to the potty, but there was no way I was haveing her run. (half the length of walmart) got her there and was terrified she would freak out because we didn't bring our folding potty chair (bought at walmart, fits in your purse to put over big potties) But she sat! and went! Yay! THen last night after this happened she asked for a diaper back (first time in 3 weeks.) *sigh*.

You made a comment on ann's blog about how hard things are -- I couldn't find a way to Message you, so I wanted to say "hang in there!" It is hard, then you get a lull, then it is hard, then you get lull. I live for the lulls, we are currently in one and I am so thankful because it has been so hard. 1 is hard, 2 is a different hard, and in some ways easier. 3 was horrible for me, easy for friends, 4 was easy for me, and horrible for friends, 5 is just more, but when you don't have enough more is harder too. I love you/your blogs! hang in ther!
